JESS DADDS

Jess Dadds is a filmmaker from South East England.

Jess’ latest short film “I am good at karate” was awarded a Special Mention at Encounters Film Festival due to how the film “explores the complex intersections of class, mental health and coming of age, with a strong self-assured visual style”. The film also screened at various other BAFTA and Academy Award qualifying film festivals, such as Oberhausen, Montreal Du Nouveau Cinéma and LSFF.

Jess is currently developing his first feature project, supported by BFI.

01 I AM GOOD AT KARATE
I am good at karate follows a young teenager who is forced to battle a Demon made of football shirts.

Written and directed by Jess Dadds, the film features the voices of Jason Williamson from English post-punk band Sleaford Mods, and Writer Nathan Filer, most well known for his award winning novel The Shock of the Fall.

The film received a Special Mention by the International Jury at Encounters Film Festival due to how the film “explores the complex intersections of class, mental health and coming of age, with a strong self-assured visual style”. The Film also screened a variety of BAFTA & Academy Award qualifying festivals such as Oberhausen, Montreal Du Nouveau Cinema and LSFF.

Funded by BFI NETWORK, the film was also included in the "Top 3 Short Films of 2022 - Programmers & Curators Choices" article by Talking Shorts.
